About Our John S. Martinez Community Service Awardees

This annual award is named in honor of the late State Representative, John S. Martinez, who was an employee of Columbus House and later served as a board member. John spent his life in service to others and was an inspiration to us all.

Penelope has been spending her birthday making a difference for others through her lemonade fundraiser for the past three years. Her compassionate and entrepreneurial spirit, selflessness, and commitment to helping people experiencing homelessness inspires us all.

The Foote School exemplifies a collaborative relationship between students, teachers, families, and school administrators working together as a community to show care and enhance the lives of their most vulnerable neighbors. For their Valentine’s gift card collections, "fill a Van" snack collections, visits to our shelter, an art installation in our dining room…. and so many other forms of support over the years- we are eternally grateful!

Ulbrich Stainless Steels & Special Metals is an ongoing supporter of the Wallingford Emergency Shelter. Whether it be through financial contributions, collections for items on our wish list, or an Appalachian Trail trek that raised thousands, we are grateful for their dedication to our mission!
