When we take our daily copy of the Register off of our front steps and read it with a hot cup of coffee, we look at the front page that tells us about something that has happened. No matter whether it’s a high school basketball game or a new building going up, it seems to have taken place just down the street.

In an event being dubbed, “The Great Easter Bonnet Challenge,” an anonymous donor has pledged to give $5 to Columbus House, the New Haven shelter for the homeless, for every hat worn by a woman, man or child at the 9 a.m. or 11 a.m. services at 205 Meetinghouse Lane.
