Raise Your Voice to End Homelessness
We believe that solving homelessness requires more than providing shelter and housing—it demands systemic change. Advocacy is how we address the root causes of homelessness, protect funding for vital programs, and amplify the voices of those we serve. Whether you're speaking to a neighbor, writing your representative, or attending a public hearing, your voice can make a meaningful difference.
Why Advocacy Matters
Public policy shapes the services available to people experiencing homelessness. From access to affordable housing and healthcare to funding for outreach and mental health services, every legislative decision has the power to move people into homes—or leave them behind. Your advocacy ensures that housing remains a human right, not a privilege.
Legislative & Policy Priorities
Columbus House collaborates with partners and coalitions across Connecticut to promote legislation that:
- Protects and expands funding for homelessness prevention, outreach, shelter, and permanent housing solutions.
- Invests in affordable housing by supporting new developments and preserving existing low-income housing stock.
- Advances racial and housing justice to address the disproportionate impact of homelessness on people of color and other marginalized communities.
- Supports wraparound services such as mental health care, substance use treatment, and employment programs that help people stay housed.
- Preserves and strengthens the homeless response system including Coordinated Access Networks (CANs), medical respite programs, and Rapid Re-Housing.
