Housing Development
Building Homes. Restoring Hope.
At Columbus House, we know that the key to solving homelessness is housing. But not just any housing—safe, affordable, and supportive housing that meets people where they are. Our Housing Development efforts are the foundation of our mission to end homelessness, creating permanent homes that offer stability, comfort, and a true sense of belonging for individuals and families across Connecticut.

Shepherd Home
Located on the Connecticut Valley Hospital campus in Middletown, Shepherd Home is a restored historic 1920s nurse’s residence that now provides 32 units of permanent supportive housing for Veterans experiencing homelessness. Columbus House served as the developer for this innovative project, while supportive services are provided by St. Vincent de Paul Middletown, helping residents rebuild their lives with dignity and community.
Peterson Properties
Named in honor of former Chief of Real Estate Chris Peterson, this initiative provides 27 affordable apartments for families and individuals in five homes throughout Connecticut. These units offer more than housing—they offer a path forward. Columbus House case managers provide on-site support to help residents maintain stability and achieve their long-term goals.
Curtis Cofield Estates
Currently under construction, Curtis Cofield Estates will offer new units of permanent supportive housing for families in the New Haven area. This development continues Columbus House’s commitment to expanding the housing stock with safe, supportive, and community-oriented solutions that serve those most in need.
HOMELESS:HOUSED
An innovative project between Columbus House and Yale School of Architecture, HOMELESS:HOUSED produced six buildings designed specifically for those experiencing homelessness – each providing our most vulnerable neighbors with permanent, supportive housing that is replicable, sustainable, and low impact.
