Finding a Way Home for Families
Homelessness among families is on the rise across the country, and the situation is no different in Connecticut. The number of families living without shelter has been steadily increasing year after year. Columbus House provides a variety of programs and services for families with children who are experiencing homelessness, helping them find and secure long-term housing.

Wallingford Emergency Shelter
Located in Wallingford, the shelter provides 4 units and case management for families facing homelessness.
Middlesex Family Shelter
The Middlesex Family Shelter provides 6 town-home style units in a quiet neighborhood. Families are provided with case management, shelter, and connection to services.
Winter Family Triage Center
Running during the coldest months of the year, the 40-bed Family Triage Center in New Haven offers case management and a safe, warm space for mothers with children under 16, offering a stepping stone on their path to shelter or housing.
Peterson Properties
Named in honor of former Chief of Real Estate Chris Peterson, this initiative provides 27 affordable apartments for families in five homes throughout Connecticut. These units offer more than housing—they offer a path forward. Columbus House case managers provide on-site support to help residents maintain stability and achieve their long-term goals.
Rapid Re-Housing
Rapid Re-Housing moves families directly from instances of homelessness into their own rental unit by providing short-term financial assistance in the form of initial rent, security deposits, and/or utility assistance.
Housing Community Partnerships
Columbus House works with partners to provide case management for families living in permanent supportive housing communities, helping them build stability and thrive.
